vindicated.

i’ve posted a new picture on my deviantart, you can check it out by clicking here. yes, it’s black & white!!!! i’ve really missed working with black & white, all my recent pictures have been color. i guess i was trying to give myself a challenge, because i do feel that working b&w is easier. maybe it’s the same for everybody, maybe it’s not. i’ll definitely keep working with color though. let me know what you think of the picture!

a few days ago, i tweeted that i was gonna do a photoshoot using my friend Sandrine (and possible her sister too) as a model. my idea was to do it by her pool, with golden tones, colorful pieces of clothing and all. just a summer themed shoot. but today’s sunday? and i haven’t heard back from her. she’s even the one who suggested me to do a photoshoot using her in the first place. not like i was expecting much, she’s been in this one pattern lately, but doesn’t it annoy you when friends make plan with you and then somewhat disappear from the face of the earth? when the same friend does the same freakin thing every time? but as i was saying, i was expecting that sort of situation, so i doubled planned my weekend and today instead i’ll be taking pictures of my friends Elle & Alex. Elle (short for ElĂ©onaure) is going to be really fun to shoot, i’ve never used her as a model. i won’t be using my first idea, and i haven’t got a clue what the styling will be like.. i still need to figure it out. i’ll definitely let you know how the shoot goes!

and just as a little sideline, i still cannot show you the pictures from that advertising campaign i shot over two months ago for a handbag/clutch. the people are being very unprofessional, and lot of drama is going on between the agency that hired me to take the pictures and the fashion house. so… i’ll probably just post them soon anyway. i was talking to my friend who happens to be a lawyer and they haven’t made me sign any sort of contract, nor have they paid me (i decided to be attached to the project as a sort of trade thing. they advertise my photography services, and i take their pictures. i was also doing it to help them since it’s a brand new montreal-based company and all) so technically the pictures are totally mine. and i haven’t really got much patience when it comes to dealing with people who are well over thirty and cannot act responsible, nor put together. they’re supposed to launch their campaign on may 16th, if i’m right. so we’ll see how that goes. if i’m not posting the pictures before that, i’ll definitely do after that date!

found one! found one! found one!.

i found an apartment! i found an apartment! i found an apartment! what’s the big deal? you probably wonder… because, yes, true, apartments are everywhere, especially in very industrial cities. but let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks. at least according to my experience. and considering the fact that i’m looking for an apartment in toronto, which is about seven hours away from where i live. out of the twelve apartments i found online, only seven picked up the phone when i called to make an apointment. only five had places available to show. only three sounded normal, and actually seemed to understand what i was saying (majority has it, people who manage apartment buildings don’t often have the best English skills). only two picked up the day i was in toronto looking for apartments. out of the two, only one seemed safe. one of them was in a questionable area, but also, the person who was supposed to show us the apartment was being very sketchy so i decided to pass, and put my hopes on the last one.

and with very little hopes did i go to the last apartment. someone was there when i rang the door bell. check. she spoke very decent english. check. she was very sweet and friendly. check. she showed me an apartment although it was still going under remodeling and that she was “technically not allowed”. check. new fridge, new oven, new bathtub, new toilet, new sink. check. two bedrooms. check. available june 1st. check.

i was so relieved to find a decent place for a reasonable rent that i signed the lease the next day. i’d show you pictures of the place, but i wasn’t really allowed to take pictures while visiting the apartment. i will for sure show you what the apartment looks like once i’ve moved in and all. i mainly love the fact that the unit has a balcony. i wouldn’t care much for it if it was street level, but high rise with a balcony is nice. you get an awesome city view, and get some kind of privacy since it’s so high up. imagine sitting on your balcony when it’s street level… it would be nothing but overly awkward.

ONE NEGATIVE THING though. i’m honestly having nightmares already about bedbugs. i’ve never personally experienced it. i’ve lived in houses all my life. but if you’ve ever lived in a highly populated city like toronto, or new york, you probably already know that bedbugs are very common in apartment buildings. no matter how clean they seem to look. and apparently toronto has had a lot of issues with them over the recent years. i’m honestly gonna spray the place like crazy the day i put a foot in. and if you don’t know what bed bugs are or simply don’t know the term (i think it’s different for every country). you should google it…but beware, i think the pictures will give you nightmares!

i’ve posted a new picture on my lookbook, you can check it out by clicking here. it’s also been added on my deviantart, here. let me know what you think!

the art of apartment hunting !.

i’ve been staring blankly at my computer screen, with no ideas coming to mind. first i was struggling finding a title for this blog post (which i still haven’t decided on at the moment, and will most likely only write down once i’m done writing the whole post) and then i was thinking, wait, what was i even going to blog about? actually i don’t even know. i think i just feel guilty when i don’t post in a little while… but then, you don’t always have things to talk about. or you simply feel they aren’t newsworthy. so here is goes;

lately i’ve just been working, and looking at apartments. looking online is definitely hard as half the things you come across look like scams, or most apartments for rent simply aren’t posted online… but i still found a few i really like. some are a little far from the city (i mean… what is far, a few metro stops, toronto – the downtown area – looks pretty small to me, so i doubt it’s even considered far) but they’re seriously great compared to what i found in the actual downtown toronto. and i’m a little shocked that apartments are as expensive as they would have been if i had moved to los angeles as i was originally planning. yes, the school tuition in toronto is like one fifth of their tuition, but the apartments are about the same price range. how crazy? and most the places you get for a little over a thousand dollars a month (a regular size two bedroom apartment) still look kind of gross, and unappealing. in montreal, for a thousand, you can almost get a house (lol). or something really nice. most of them have an outdoor pool though, which could be fun on those hot summer days. and i’m going to toronto next week to visit a few! 28th to 30th. it’s exciting. i’ve never gone apartment hunting before. might be disappointing, or might end up finding the one. i’ll let you know. all morning i’ve just been writing down a list of places i need to call to make showing apointments.

i’ve been posting quite a few pictures on my deviantart lately, you can check them out here, on my deviantart gallery!

oh, and remember i told you about this website idea i had in my previous post! well i worked on it, and you can visit it at headfirst.alexevans.net ! it doesn’t have much stuff yet, but i’m working on it. still trying to figure out the concept and direction i want the website to go. i don’t want it to be too irrelevant either! which is kinda hard to do by posting random daily pictures you take.
