the art of apartment hunting !.
i’ve been staring blankly at my computer screen, with no ideas coming to mind. first i was struggling finding a title for this blog post (which i still haven’t decided on at the moment, and will most likely only write down once i’m done writing the whole post) and then i was thinking, wait, what was i even going to blog about? actually i don’t even know. i think i just feel guilty when i don’t post in a little while… but then, you don’t always have things to talk about. or you simply feel they aren’t newsworthy. so here is goes;
lately i’ve just been working, and looking at apartments. looking online is definitely hard as half the things you come across look like scams, or most apartments for rent simply aren’t posted online… but i still found a few i really like. some are a little far from the city (i mean… what is far, a few metro stops, toronto – the downtown area – looks pretty small to me, so i doubt it’s even considered far) but they’re seriously great compared to what i found in the actual downtown toronto. and i’m a little shocked that apartments are as expensive as they would have been if i had moved to los angeles as i was originally planning. yes, the school tuition in toronto is like one fifth of their tuition, but the apartments are about the same price range. how crazy? and most the places you get for a little over a thousand dollars a month (a regular size two bedroom apartment) still look kind of gross, and unappealing. in montreal, for a thousand, you can almost get a house (lol). or something really nice. most of them have an outdoor pool though, which could be fun on those hot summer days. and i’m going to toronto next week to visit a few! 28th to 30th. it’s exciting. i’ve never gone apartment hunting before. might be disappointing, or might end up finding the one. i’ll let you know. all morning i’ve just been writing down a list of places i need to call to make showing apointments.
i’ve been posting quite a few pictures on my deviantart lately, you can check them out here, on my deviantart gallery!
oh, and remember i told you about this website idea i had in my previous post! well i worked on it, and you can visit it at headfirst.alexevans.net ! it doesn’t have much stuff yet, but i’m working on it. still trying to figure out the concept and direction i want the website to go. i don’t want it to be too irrelevant either! which is kinda hard to do by posting random daily pictures you take.

microwave fine cuisine.
yes, you’ve read right. apparently people used to think of microwave cooking as fine cuisine, something that could somewhat be along the lines of gourmet food… what the hell were they thinking! even today, in 2010, people don’t even use them (as far as i’m concerned) unless it’s to heat up something quick, or make popcorn. i was at this one thrift store yesterday, and they had hundreds of books about microwave cooking. i had honestly never seen such a thing in the past! i almost got one of them cause i thought it was so absurd. and i looked at some of the recipes, and people really seemed sure of themselves with that stuff; baking brownies in the microwave? grilled salmon & vegetables? apple pie? what the hell!!!! reminds me of when people would think that skin cream and makeup with mercury was the coolest thing back in the 50s.. up until they found out it was cancerous…
i’m thinking of starting a new website. not that i would ever stop posting blogs here. i mean, just a little side website. it’s not gonna be much. i just thought i’d be great to have a website to post daily random pictures that i take. because i really do always take pictures of random things, random places, food, etc… mainly with my iphone now, because i have it on me at all time, and it’s light to carry around. let me know what you think. i’ll start working on it. it would be some kind of a TUMBLR looking thing.

i’ve posted this new picture on my deviantart, you can check it out by
clicking here. let me know what you think! there are so many new pictures that i need to post over the next week or two, i’ve been doing shoots pretty often lately!

i’ve posted a new picture on my lookbook, you can check it out by clicking here! and you can see it on deviantart as well, here. me wearing blue jeans? yes! you’re seeing right. a once in a lifetime thing. i couldn’t help but fall in love with that pair.
i’ve been dealing with bad allergies lately, which has been pretty annoying. i assume it’s because of spring. it’s strange though, because i usually don’t get allergies, unless i travel somewhere. two nights ago i had to email back the university with descriptions of courses i’ve completed while i was at Dawson, because sometimes the name of the courses written on your transcript doesn’t say much. and in order for me to be granted the credits, they need to make sure that the courses i’ve done match their first year courses. and writing the email to them was one of the weirdest things… it’s so hard for me to sound formal in an email… and capitalizing i’s? i can’t for the sake of my life. at least, not on a computer. i find they look weird capitalized, as if just a bar or line. anyway, the point is i’m glad i had my friend helping me write the email, because otherwise i would’ve made myself sound like a fool. my email went from sounding like a yo what’s up email for a friend to hello mr. president of the united states how do you do, type thing.
a little while ago i tweeted about how i really wanted grey suede loafers. i looked, and looked, and looked for a pair, in possibly most shoe stores, and store carrying shoes in montreal. and then, just last week, i thought, why not looking at urban outfitters? they’re pretty big on the fake vintage look & such, and suede loafers, when you think about it for a second, sound like something you’d find there. and ta-da! found some! now let’s get to the sad part of the story. the first day i’ve worn them… they hurt my feet like there was no tomorrow, and got super dirty. now, try to clean suede. honestly not the easiest thing. i’ve been contemplating returning them.. but then picture yourself returning a pair of dirty shoes that look like they’ve been worn in a minefield. they’d probably just say “no thanks bye.” so i’m left with my dirty suede shoes. google.com, a good friend of mine, suggested to get a suede brush, and brush the dirt out, and then use some kind of mix of water and vinegar to clean the rest. still, i might try one day.
p.s; i cannot wait for kate nash’s new album to come out. the first single is so great. it’s so rare that an artist is able to top their successful first album.
